Extended Reality Prototyping for Transdisciplinary Collaboration in Product Development

Product developers and manufacturers are constantly looking for methods and technologies to make their processes more efficient and their activities more effective. The recent increase in accessibility of virtual reality and augmented reality technology has made them attractive for exploration and validation activities in small teams. This paper gives an overview of extended reality prototyping in agile product development and presents the challenges regarding its integration into established processes at the example of two case studies. Based on experience, solutions to common problems with the integration of these technologies are proposed. The paper describes best practices to be implemented for extended reality prototyping to become a valuable and accepted method for transdisciplinary collaboration and communication.
